General Employment Policy (GEP) _ Eligibility Criteria
Admission Scheme
In general, unless a person has the right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong, he or she requires a visa or entry permit to work, study, establish or join in any business, take up residence or to stay in Hong Kong as a visitor longer than the allowed visa free period.
While each application is determined on its individual merits, an applicant should meet normal immigration requirements as required before he or she may be considered for the grant of a visa or entry permit.
It should be noted that the criteria may be subject to change from time to time without notice.
Normally, the working visa will be under General Employment Policy (GEP) for employment as professionals.
A GEP application may be favourably considered if:
1. the applicant has a good education background, normally a first degree in the relevant field, but in special circumstances, good technical qualifications, proven professional abilities or relevant experience and achievements supported by documentary evidence may also be accepted;
2. there is no security objection and no known record of serious crime in respect of the applicant;
3. there is a genuine job vacancy;
4. the applicant has a confirmed offer of employment and is employed in a job relevant to his academic qualifications or work experience that cannot be readily taken up by the local work force; and
5. the remuneration package including income, accommodation, medical and other benefits are similar with market level for professionals in Hong Kong.
General Employment Policy (GEP) _ Required documents and Progressing Time
About the required documents of the applicant, he or she should prepare:
– the application form
– the proof of academic qualification
and relevant work experience
– employment contract
For the sponsoring company, they should prepare:
– the application form
– the employment contract
– the copy of business registration certificate
– the latest audited financial statement
– and, the company profile with a business background and business activities
Normally, it will takes four weeks to process the applications for employment upon receipt of all the required documents. The Immigration Department will not be able to start processing the application unless all the required documents and information have been received.
